JAKARTA: Jakarta Composite Index (JCI), which measures the overall performance of Indonesian shares, slightly increased 0.27% or 10.49 points to 3,847.46 at the midday trading as Indonesia's inflation slowed for a fourth straight month.
The JCI moved within range 3,832.34-3,856.61. About one share rose for every one share that fell and more than a half of the shares traded in JCI today were unchanged.
The Central Bureau of Statistic today announced that consumer prices in Indonesia rose 5.98% in May from a year earlier.
The increase in JCI was led by PT Astra International Tbk which contributed 4.76 points to the index, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk 2.87 points, PT Bumi Resources Tbk 1.83 points, and PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk 1.80 points.
Shares that hampered the movement of JCI were PT XL Axiata Tbk with minus 2.51 points, PT Kalbe Farma Tbk minus 1.30 points, PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk minus 1.09 points, and PT Adaro Energy Tbk minus 0.94 point.
Bisnis-27 Index slightly gained 0.12% or 0.38 point to 333.10. The stock benchmark covering 27 stocks and launched by business daily newspaper dubbed Bisnis Indonesia was moving within range 331.63-334.65.
In the meantime, the regional markets mixed. Nikkei-225 increased 0.10% to 9,703.34, Hang Seng declined 0.14% to 23,650.99, Shanghai SE decreased 0.25% to 2,736.73, Kospi climbed 0.13% to 2,144.78, and MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.31% to 922.99.
The rupiah traded increased 0.08% against the US dollar at IDR8,536. (msw)
