JAKARTA: PT Bumi Resources Tbk, Indonesia's largest coal producer, has paid US$300 million to lenders, Investor Daily reported, quoting President Director Ari S. Hudaya.
Hudaya said the payment consists of the bond and debt for its working capital without giving further details about the lenders. The company plans to pay US$1 billion debt this year.
The company will pay its debt to China Investment Corporation (CIC). Currently, Bumi's debt to CIC is US$1.9 billion with 19% interest rate. The debt matures in 2013.
Bumi will have a meeting with CIC to negotiate the debt payment. The company has not yet decided the payment scheme that it will use.
Hudaya denied the news that CIC will swap debt into equity. He also dismissed the news saying that Bumi Plc will increase its shares ownership in Bumi Resources. Bumi estimated its coal output to reach 65 million tons this year. (msw)
